West Africa trip itinerary

About this blog

When we decided to trek through West Africa for our next vacation, we weren’t able to find a lot of resources online. There were no cautionary tales about the challenges of driving from Ghana through Togo to Benin, there were no food forums where people discussed what and where to eat, and while there are some mentions of heat, it did not prepare us for the scorching heat that will test our endurance in more ways than one. Two weeks is not a lot of time to spend in West Africa to have a lot to say about it, but I collected info from our local hosts and perspectives from my five travel companions in addition to my own notes. I hope this blog will turn up in someone’s search results somewhere and be helpful towards their trip planning.

About me

I’m Nancy and I love food, travel and social entrepreneurship. For the last 4 years I’ve been volunteering at Jolkona, a nonprofit organization that does fundraising for small, socially innovative programs around the world. Sometimes if we get enough vacation days, we’ll make the trek to different corners of the world to see the action happening on the ground. Normally I would only blog about the programs but this year I thought I would write down some general travel information given the lack of available content for this region.
